and I have worked in the jewellery trade all my working life. As a University student I found the career I was looking for, not in books and libraries but in my part time vocation selling antique trade beads - it was here I developed a love of jewellery and the unusual.
After several years working with the trade beads I moved to Northern California where I opened a jewellery store in the gorgeous town of Nevada City. I studied jewellery making at the University of California - Davis.
Years later, on my return to Melbourne I opened a jewellery store called Prosperity Jewellery. It started out at Melbourne Central and then I opened another branch in High Street Armadale. Prosperity specialised in 9 carat gold and sterling silver jewellery, showcasing local and overseas designers.
We made custom designs for many of our loyal customers. We watched young girls grow up with our jewellery, from 16 to 18 year birthday presents to finding the right jewellery for their wedding day. We had 18 fantastic years but decided to close in June of 2010. It was time to try something different without the pressure of everyday retail.
I now have the most ideal work life. Working from home collaboratively with my clients, creating unique pieces that express their individuality and sharing the design and craftsmanship with some of Australia's greatest jewellers and engravers.
